The Carbondale Police Department and the FBI Denver Division are investigating a bank robbery.
On Saturday, May 5, 2012, a white or light-skinned Hispanic male entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1201 Highway 133 in Carbondale, Colorado. He presented a demand note to a teller and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun, threatening those in the bank.
The robber is considered armed and dangerous.
He is described as being 5’6”- 5’9” tall with a thin build, approximately 140-170 pounds, 25-35 years of age; he wore sunglasses and likely a wig and fake mustache/beard. He also wore a large grey, shoulder to waste length backpack that contained a zippered, expandable black duffel type bag, white baggy pants, and a dark blue sweatshirt. The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this individual from the provided photographs and would like to remind citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious behavior around any financial institution to law enforcement.
Bank robbery is punishable by a 20-year prison sentence for each
offense and increases if a dangerous weapon is used in the commission of
the crime.
The FBI continues to provide financial institutions with the best practices for security to make them less vulnerable to robberies.
Wells Fargo is offering a $5,000 reward to those who come forward with information regarding bank robberies against Wells Fargo. Anyone who has original information regarding the identification, arrest, and conviction of anyone robbing a Wells Fargo banking store may be eligible.
