Steven Hamilton, of Blooming Grove, gets 18 years to life for murdering Daquan Nugent in Newburgh

NEWBURGH - A Blooming Grove man was sentenced today in the murder of his alleged drug dealer in Newburgh back in May.
Prosecutors say Steven Hamilton met Daquan Nugent to get drugs, but instead robbed the 21-year-old Poughkeepsie man and fatally stabbed him in the chest when he fought back.
The Blooming Grove man will serve 18 years to life in prison for murder as part of a plea deal after admitting to stabbing Nugent near Downing Park.
Hamilton's attorney said he was unemployed and addicted to drugs at the time, a defense the judge said is no excuse for murder.
While Hamilton did not speak before sentencing, his mother approached the victim's family after court to offer an apology.
