Arrest Made in Navy Federal Credit Union Robbery

The FBI, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and Carlsbad Police Department are announcing the arrest of Johnny Howard Hecker, age 43, as a result of the investigation conducted into the robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union at 1824 Marron, Road, Suite 112 in Carlsbad, California, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Navy Federal Credit Union located at 1824 Marron Road, Suite 112 in Carlsbad, California, was robbed by an unknown male using a demand note. The robber was described as a white male, late 30s, dark hair, glasses, approximately 5’9” tall, with a medium build and multiple tattoos on his neck and arms.
Based on additional investigation, which included a review of bank surveillance photographs, interviews of witnesses, and contact with other law enforcement agencies, Hecker was identified as the alleged robber.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Hecker was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the San Diego Central Jail. Hecker was booked on one count of robbery involving the robbery of the Navy Federal Credit Union and possession of a controlled substance.
Hecker is expected to be arraigned on Friday, May 31, 2013, in San Diego County Superior Court.
An arrest warrant itself is not evidence that the defendant committed the crimes charged. The defendant is presumed innocent until the government meets its burden in court of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
