FBI Seeks Public’s Help in Identifying Human Remains Found on Navajo Indian Reservation

The FBI and Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety are seeking the public’s help to identify skeletal human remains found in Nenahnezad, New Mexico, on the Navajo Indian Reservation in San Juan County.
Law enforcement found a human skull and other bone fragments in a field approximately 200 yards west of the Nenahnezad Chapter House on May 26, 2012.
The bones were examined by the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator and forwarded to the FBI Lab in Quantico, Virginia, which produced a forensic approximation of the individual’s face (see below).
The remains are believed to be those of a Hispanic or Native American male.
The unidentified male had a permanent retainer behind the lower front teeth and a small chip on the upper right front tooth.
The male probably was between 28-52 years old when he died, had all four wisdom teeth removed, and had a broken nose that had healed.
It is unknown how long the bones had been there; however, the presence of the dental retainer indicates they are not ancient.
The cause of death remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the identity of these remains is asked to contact the FBI in Albuquerque (24 hours), 505-889-1300.
