NEW BRUNSWICK - A Kean University student from Tennessee was found beaten to death behind a house near the Rutgers University campus.
The student has been identified as 22-year-old Billy McCaw. He was found behind the house at 28 Hartwell St. just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Middlesex County prosecutor says McCaw had been fatally beaten and suffered "blunt force trauma."
Police haven't said what McCaw was doing there, but the student's uncle in Tennessee tells News 12 New Jersey that McCaw was at a Valentine's Day party and was walking to another one when he was attacked. McCaw was a former Rutgers student, who transferred to Kean this semester. At Rutgers, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and remained active in fraternity life at Rutgers.

McCaw’s fraternity brothers released a letter about their slain friend. "It is with heavy hearts today that the Iota Tau Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi says goodbye to Billy McCaw, our beloved brother and friend," the statement says. "Billy will be remembered as a genuine friend, and a selfless individual who always gave the impression that he cared."
An autopsy is being performed to determine an exact cause of death.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to call New Brunswick police at 732-745-5217.
